August 10 - Life in Zambia
Our next Young Professionals event will be held Thursday, August 10 at Park Church (3025 W. 37th Ave, Denver) from 6-8pm where we will hear from Bill & Marci Hoover, CWO missionaries from Zambia. Refreshments will be served at this casual Q&A. Invite your friends, small group, etc. and come learn about life and ministry in Zambia!
August 19 - CWO 14'er Climb
Climb Mt. Sherman (14,036′) or sponsor a climber and raise support for Burkina Faso, Haiti, Zambia or Zimbabwe! Hikers can sign-up to raise funds for any of the following four ministries:
- Burkina Faso / Village of Opportunity – You can help make a difference in the lives of young women in Burkina Faso who attend the Village of Opportunity, learning sewing, cosmetology and agriculture. Last year we raised more than $9,000, enough to send 15 girls to school for the year!
- Haiti / Children’s Feeding Program – As many as 65 children, ages 10 and under, gather at CWO to receive a hot meal three times a week while hearing Bible stories, learning to pray and singing songs. By sponsoring a hiker fundraising for the Children’s Feeding Program, you’ll help feed a child physically and spiritually!
- Zambia / Outreach & Discipleship – This ministry in Zambia provides men and young boys in need with medical care, food, access to bathing and clothes washing, spiritual guidance, encouragement, tutoring, Bible studies and activity days. Support will make a significant difference in the lives of these men and boys.
- Zimbabwe / Leadership Development – CWO Leadership Development conferences in Zimbabwe offer strong biblical training and leadership skills development. Each month pastors and church leaders learn what is needed to improve the conditions in their churches, schools and communities.
Directions to Mt. Sherman –
Take US 285 south to Fairplay. From Fairplay, drive just over a mile south and turn right on to County Road 18.
Drive 10 miles to a large parking area at 11,250′. This is the Leavick site. There is a large mine building on the right before the parking area. The road starts to get rough after this point but passenger cars can slowly drive another 1.5 miles before the road gets too rough.
There are a couple of small pull-offs between 11,700′ and 11,200′ and more parking before a gate near 12,000′.
We plan to meet at this Mt. Sherman parking lot at 6:00am on August 19. Depending on your hiking speed and experience, the hike should take about 6 hours round trip.
